Apache Solr is a powerful Open Source search engine (fulltext, facets, synonyms, orthographic checking, highlighting etc.) working with a REST API (HTTP/XML and HTTP/JSON) and built on top of the Apache Lucene search library.

Solr has now became a solid and efficient Open Source alternative within the search engines market, until then leaded by proprieatary solutions. Most of CMS have produced bridges with Solr, in a more or less advanced way (eZ Publish, Drupal, WordPress etc.); the most complex step beeing coupling internal data (eZ Publish’s classes, Drupal’s CCK) and Solr field types. eZ Systems has provided a sophisticated extension between Solr and eZ Publish: eZ Find.

Discover how to develop with eZ Find in mind, and how to manage Solr not only as a search engine but also as a great alternative to build parts of the website: lists, filters, grouping etc.
