The talk

Cloud computing can be described as an inevitable technology transition towards consuming computing resources as a utility. This presentation will show how Ubuntu Server edition is accompanying the transition towards Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) both on the host and the guest side.

On the host side, we’ll discuss why open source cloud infrastructure implementations are important, and present the solution currently integrated in Ubuntu Server: Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud, powered by Eucalyptus.

Ubuntu Server is also significantly present on the guest side, through official and unofficial cloud images. We’ll present the new boot-time configuration features and the future plans to support cloud workloads and further optimize its usage as a cloud guest OS.
