Since the fist versions (even before 1.0 one in 1998), KDE relies on the work of the different communities working on internationalization of this desktop environment. Current version (4.4.0) is translated into 58 langages. First KDE applications translations appeared in late 1997. For 13 years, French translation team translate KDE and applications. This team members come from computing but are also students, teachers, professionals translators … .

This talk wants to speak about how the team works, showing that you do not have to be programmer or professional writer to be a contributor. I will show the whole process followed by a translation effort : how KDE developers deal with i18n, how text that has to be translated is extracted from source code etc, how to select the files, different translators profiles, validation process …

I will also cover the tools topic.

And last, I will show the infrastructure used by the FR team.
