The region of Extremadura in Spain installed about 80,000 computers in its public schools on 2002. Since then, more computers, servers or even laptops have arrived to the schools.

Keeping in a good software and hardware state such a big park requires some planification and a bunch of good tools : GLPI, puppet, ocs inventory, intranet, LTSP with Debian Edu, etc.

José L. Redrejo Rodríguez is a teacher who’s working as a lead developer in the implementation of free software in the schools of the spanish region of Extremadura.

Since 2002, he’s working in the development of an Linux educative distribution based on Debian, and setting up the network and classroom environment of all the public schools of the region.

Currently more than 100.000 computers are managed in a private Intranet , with educative applications used daily by thousands of teachers and students.
