Summary

For the last year, the national goverment of Spain has promoted and subventioned a project called "Escuela 2.0" in the schools of the different Spanish regions. Some of the regions have understood it as a way to put some electronic on the student desktops, with a minimum operative system and an office productivity suite.

The region of Extremadura has being using computers in the schools for the last eight years. For this time, some errors have been made and some lessons have been learnt. For the "Escuela 2.0" project, the focus has been put on the integration of the computers in the schools, making them as friendly as possible to the students or to the teachers without a good digital literacy. We have developed some some new applications (as usbhome), improved some others (as ControlAula) and prepared three new environments for secondary teachers, secondary students and primary schools, adapted to their different needs, environment and ways to work.

Biography

José L. Redrejo Rodríguez is a teacher who’s working as a lead developer in the implementation of free software in the schools of the spanish region of Extremadura.

Since 2002, he’s working in the development of an Linux educative distribution based on Debian, and setting up the network and classroom environment of all the public schools of the region.

Currently more than 100.000 computers are managed in a private Intranet , with educative applications used daily by thousands of teachers and students.
