This conference will introduce the wollowing topics :

  • SQLite (LIKE, regular expression via sqlite_create_function).
  • MySQL FULLTEXT.
  • PostgreSQL Tsearch.
  • Lucene (+ Pylucene, Lucene.Net, Zend Search).
  • Others : Sphinx Search, Xapian.

The presentation will be based on my personal experience on SQLite, MySQL and Zend Search ; on workshops I’ve attended (PostgreSQL) and on tests conducted under my supervision (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Sphinx, Lucene, Xapian). It will cover an exhaustive overview of existing techniques, from the most basic to the more advanced, and will lead to a comparative table of the existing technology.

The speaker

Civil Engineer dipl. and professor at Polytech Mons Faculty of Engineering (FPMs ; UMons) in the Economics and Innovation Management department, Robert Viseur participates in particular to Strategic Marketing and Innvovation courses of the Faculty, as part of the post graduate curriculum in Innovation Management ((CUMI).

His research, conducted as part of a PhD thesis, relate to co-creation management and, more specifically, Open Source projects management.

Robert Viseur is also researcher at the Centre d’Excellence en Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication (CETIC). His preferred topics are Open Source and Internet search technologies.
